Diamond Aircraft introduces DA50 Super Star
5-seat, 350 hp FADEC turbo available 2009;
position reservation program announced.
Continuing its track record of aircraft innovation, Diamond Aircraft today unveiled the DA50 SuperStar to pilots and media at its exhibit at AirVenture in Oshkosh. The 5-seat, 350-hp FADEC turbo-charged aircraft drew a lot of attention – and is quickly lining up buyers for the position reservation program the company announced at the show. “The DA50 SuperStar is a logical product for Diamond: it provides a step-up plane for current DA40 owners, and is a great plane for anybody who wants more space, luxury and performance,” says Heike Larson, Vice President for Sales and Marketing. “We looked at the piston-single market, and saw a sweet spot: a plane with room for more than 4 people, a high-performance plane made simple to fly with a FADEC turbo engine, a plane to step up to for owners of other singles who want to take on more serious traveling.”
The DA50 SuperStar features an interior modeled after European luxury automobiles, with a 3-seat back bench, a roomy cabin – at 52” it is the widest in its class – car-style air conditioning, and an optional rear seat entertainment system. Its cockpit impresses with a 3- screen G1000 panel, and a clean, simple layout. The single-lever FADEC engine makes flying a turbo easy and, together with built-in oxygen, optional TKS ice protection and airframe parachute system, makes traveling at 200+ kts in the low flight levels a reality.
“Diamond has earned a reputation as an aircraft innovator. Every 2-3 years, we have certified new planes, many of which redefined the market place,” explains Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft. “In 2004, we delivered the first DA42 – and effectively introduced diesel technology to the certified aircraft market in North America. Next year, we will deliver the D-JET – the first Personal Light Jet to market. The DA50 is another path-breaking aircraft – introducing a turbine-like 3-screen glass cockpit as well as factory-equipped highperformance FADEC turbo technology – and bringing to market the first new-technology aircraft with more than 4 seats.”
In response to strong market demand, the company has announced a position reservation program for the SuperStar. Customers can place a $15,000 refundable deposit towards a position reservation, which is convertible to a Purchase Agreement 12 months prior to delivery, or at FAA/Transport Canada certification, whichever comes first. Current customers and those taking delivery of a new Diamond by September 30, 2007, will be eligible for up to 50 loyalty priority positions.
“Since we announced the program in December, we have been approached by many customers and prospects who want to secure an early delivery position of the SuperStar. With the launch of the Position Reservation Program, people can act now to get one of the earlier planes”, Ms Larson added. “Our distributors have told us to expect many deposits – I would not be surprised if the 50 priority loyalty positions were sold out long before the September 30 deadline.”
