Galvin Flying Services presents our Garmin G-1000 training course, at the flight school. We invite you to attend. There will be a maximum of eight positions available for the course, so we encourage you to contact us immediately. If you would like to reserve a position, sign up online or telephone our Flight Department at (206) 763-9706.

This course is offered all day each of the two days on the schedule.  IFR pilots should plan on attending both days. VFR pilots will only need to attend on the first day of the course. There will be a break for lunch each day. Lunch is not provided but snacks and beverages will be available during the day.

During the course you will be presented with many flight scenarios and opportunities for hands-on practice using a PC-based G1000 simulation. Therefore, it is critically important that you review and study the information provided and complete the self-evaluation test PRIOR to showing up to maximize the benefits of the training.

• Course Dates
The course will be held for two consecutive weekend days each month, typically but not always on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month.

• Course Cost
Cost of the course will be $299 for VFR pilots, $599 for IFR pilots. A deposit of 50% of the course cost is required upon registration; please contact our front desk by phone at 206-763-9706 to arrange a credit card transaction. Should you cancel before the registration closes (approximately one week prior to the course date), the deposit will be refunded. All course materials must be paid for prior to shipping. The balance is due the day of the course.

• Course Materials
You will also require a complete set of manufacturer manuals and other home-study material provided by Galvin and available from the Garmin website. Be sure to select the appropriate manuals covering all aspects of the G1000 as well as airframe specific manuals covering the aircraft you will be choosing to fly.

The entire documentation set is available by PDF download from the Garmin website here! It is airframe specific, so be sure to select the aircraft you will be flying. When we contact you regarding your registration we will inquire which aircraft platform you will likely be flying. Should you wish us to, we will provide manuals from the manufacturer of your preference. Costs from the manufacturers for these manuals is approximately $300.

If you already own or have access to a complete G1000 documentation set, we can arrange to provide only the remaining materials at a reduced cost. The entire documentation set is available by PDF download from the Garmin website here! It is airframe specific, so be sure to select the aircraft you will be flying.

• Prerequisites
The course is designed for instrument-rated pilots or pilots who are in training for the instrument rating and have completed the FAA knowledge test. However, if you are not instrument-rated, the instructors can adapt the lessons to provide you with a thorough G1000 background appropriate to your flying needs.

Familiarity with a Garmin GNS 430, 530 or oher approach-certified GPS such as the Bendix-King KLN94 is assumed. A basic knowledge of the GPS system and RAIM, and familiarity with creating flight plans and loading and flying approaches will greatly ease your transition to the G1000 system.

If you are not comfortable with GPS operations or would like a refresher, Galvin would be happy to provide instruction prior to the course and/or refer you to PC-based training tools and home-study courses.

• Upon Completion:
You’ll receive a graduation certificate upon successful completion of the course. Our goal is that you will be comfortable and proficient in use of the system and know how to use it to enhance your safety for all phases of VFR and IFR flight.

This course satisfies the ground portion of the Galvin G1000 checkout, which is required for rental of our G1000 equipped aircraft. You can complete the airframe-specific and flight portions of the checkout in an aircraft of your choice with a Galvin instructor. This additional instruction is NOT included in the course costs.

If you’re already checked out in a Galvin G1000 aircraft there is no need to attend this course, nor to “upgrade” your checkout, but we encourage you to attend if you are interested as it’s likely to cover material you may not have been exposed to previously.
• Course Description:
The Garmin G1000 is the most capable integrated avionics system ever to appear in a general aviation cockpit. Manufacturers are adopting it in unprecedented numbers, and it is leading the way in the transition to glass cockpits.

The G1000 provides a consistent interface for instrumentation, communication, flight planning, navigation, and situational awareness across aircraft from many manufacturers ranging from light 4-place piston singles to the next generation Very Light Jet aircraft.

The impact of the change is enormous. General and commercial aviation pilots will be flying this glass system for years to come, and it’s critical that pilots have a full understanding of the capabilities. While avionics proficiency becomes increasingly important with this technology, the system has the capability to greatly improve safety by providing more reliable and redundant instrumentation and more situational awareness information.
Galvin’s fleet of aircraft is unmatched by any flight school in the Pacific Northwest, and it includes two Diamond DA42 Twin Stars, and five Diamond DA-40’s, all with G1000 avionics.

We train pilots how to use the system for normal operations and make the most of it for VFR and IFR flight. We study all the system components, their capabilities, and their possible failure modes. You’ll become proficient in the most efficient ways of completing essential navigational tasks. You’ll know how to get to where you’re going safely and efficiently. And you’ll do it all under the tutelage of senior Galvin certified flight instructors with extensive experience in aviation, advanced avionics, and in course development. The course will be conducted in a classroom environment, using PC simulation of many flight scenarios.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing you at the flight school.
